October’s Coziest Nail Colors Sound Straight Out of a Recipe Book

From cherry jam to cinnamon spice.
Sticky cherries. Cinnamon sticks. Dark chocolate. No, these aren’t perfume notes—they’re the nail polish colors that professional manicurists are reaching for to evoke a sense of safety, nostalgia, and comfort this fall.

“The manicure should feel effortless and cozy, almost like your favorite fall sweater translated onto your nails,” says celebrity nail artist Elle Gerstein. Think of shades that remind you of a favorite dessert, like dark chocolate and cherry red, or softer, dustier takes on the classic fall color palette, like moody mauve and smoky olive. “The biggest part of the trend is how we are wearing them: shorter, natural-looking nails, really clean cuticles, and a high-gloss finish,” Gerstein continues.

“The overall mood feels comfortable and familiar, but still polished,” adds nail artist Viktoriia Voloshyna. “High-gloss finishes will remain classic, while velvet cat-eye effects, tonal French tips, and subtle chrome can add dimension without taking away from the softness of the color.”

Cherry Jam

“Cherry jam is a rich, juicy red that feels deeper than a classic red but not as dark as black cherry,” says Voloshyna. “It has that warm, translucent look of cherry preserves, especially when worn with a glossy or jelly finish.” The color may be dark, but the translucent finish keeps it from feeling heavy. Voloshyna recommends letting cherry jam polish stand alone as a solid coat of color on short-to-medium almond, oval, or square-shaped nails. “Deeper colors already make enough of a statement without a lot of nail art,” says celebrity nail artist Queenie Nguyen.

Eggplant Purple

Purple overtook the runways at NYFW, from Anna Sui’s dainty lilac dresses to Sergio Hudson’s vibrant punches of plum. It should come as no surprise, then, that eggplant is slated to be a go-to in nail artists’ fall palettes. Eggplant is a “moody, sophisticated alternative to traditional burgundy with a little more depth and unexpectedness,” thanks to the color’s muted gray undertones, says Nguyen. “ORLY ‘Velvet Dreams’ is a deep eggplant crème that looks especially beautiful with a clean, glossy finish.”

Olive Green

Gerstein dubs olive “the new neutral” of the season. “Olive & June ‘Unbothered Energy’ has that earthy, muted green tone that works so well with everything we wear this time of year—browns, creams, denim, suede,” says the artist. “[It] gives you color while still feeling understated,” adds Nguyen.

Dark Chocolate

Chocolate brown nails bring all of the cozy, snuggly energy, whether you opt for a cool-toned espresso like Londontown’s “Double Fudge,” or a rich, warm hue like Manucurist “Clove.” You can pair dark brown with all of your fall outfits, but Voloshyna is especially partial to the way a chocolate-colored manicure looks against shades of cream, gray, camel, and true blue denim.

Cinnamon Spice

Like a fragrant medley simmering on your stovetop, cinnamon-toned nail polish is rich, warm, and easy to carry with you well into winter. Gerstein is drawn to Dazzle Dry “Bookworm.” “It has that mix of warm red and brown that reminds me of changing leaves, cinnamon, and worn leather,” says the artist. “It’s a little softer than a traditional burgundy, and feels really fresh for fall 2026.”
