The general objective of the 3rD-LIFE project was to improve the quality of the life of ageing people, providing them with a virtual tool for interacting with other users and taking part in virtual activities. This was achieved through the development of a 3D virtual environment based on existing 3D platforms especially adapted for ageing people. With only a computer and an internet connection, seniors are able to communicate with other users — from their own homes and with their own voices —, to make audio and video calls to real world terminals and to have a more joyful and active life thanks to e-learning tools, cognitive games and other applications that were implemented. Since the users are represented by avatars, accessibility, usability and navigation were among central points of attention. Target group of the 3rD-LIFE project are people from 60 to 75 without specific impairments or cognitive problems. Spain - one2tribe Poland.
Assessment concepts to adult learning usability
Usability testing of e-learning content as used in two learning management systems
Usability testing has emerged in the market research world as a promising method to measure how consumers interact with a product, service or system. The goal of usability testing is to assess concepts such as understandability, learnability, operability to attractiveness or compliance Rusu et al. Generally, when conducting usability testing, consumers complete a task while being observed by a researcher who notes if issues are encountered. At the core of usability testing, the goal is to minimize or eliminate distraction and find ways to optimize the information for the consumer. Usability testing also aims to discover ways to re-evaluate how to maximize product effectiveness and efficiency, in addition to improving consumer satisfaction Rusu, C. These recommendations on how to improve performance issues are then utilized to further product development.
Usability Evaluation Basics
Usability is the ease of use and learnability of a human-made object such as a tool or device. The object of use can be a software application , website, book , tool , machine , process, vehicle , or anything a human interacts with. A usability study may be conducted as a primary job function by a usability analyst or as a secondary job function by designers , technical writers , marketing personnel, and others. It is widely used in consumer electronics , communication , and knowledge transfer objects such as a cookbook, a document or online help and mechanical objects such as a door handle or a hammer.
Twenty-nine out of papers met the criteria for eligibility. We used the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool for quality assessment. Results: A wide range of technologies was presented in the 29 studies, sorted into four domains: 1 safe walking indoors and outdoors; 2 safe living; 3 independent living; and 4 entertainment and social communication. The current state of knowledge regarding usability and acceptability reveals that even if researchers are aware of these concepts and intend to measure usability and acceptability, they seem difficult to assess.
