MUMSNET user 'simply pinky' has shared her experience of finding out that her young teenage son has been doing things he shouldn't.. The mother, who is unidentified, has posted in search of guidance about what to do, as she feels that she's in a complicated situation. The post starts off with her explaining that her son is 14 years old and that she has his Instagram log in details, which she uses to check up that he isn't swearing or posting inappropriate things. When he usually plays up, which isn't very often, she confiscates his phone for a while and they discuss what is right and wrong. However, the mother is able to see all of his messages before he deletes them, and one evening at around 11pm she saw that her son was messaging a girl. She goes on to explain that from the messages being exchanged, it seemed that the young girl seemed to be his girlfriend, and she was horrified to witness that he bullied her for over an hour to send explicit pictures of herself.

When it comes to sex, tech and teens don't make the best bedfellows. As tech-savvy teens become increasingly fluent with new technology, from social networking sites to tricked-out new cell phones, research finds the negative consequences stacking up. The photo that Megan and her friend sent showed the thenyear-old girls with their shirts pulled up, revealing their bras. But it turns out that teen girls are not the only ones sharing sexually explicit content. One-third 33 percent of young adults — 36 percent of women and 31 percent of men ages — say they have sent or posted such images. So it happens. The online survey of 1, teens and young adults — done by TRU, a company that conducts research on teens and somethings — indicates that 15 percent of teens who have sent sexually suggestive content such as text messages, e-mail, photographs or video say they have done so with someone they only know online.

I hope to god you discovered this through conversations with friends or family, and not through somebody begging you for naughty pictures. Nobody told me not to do it. I had just turned 13 when a guy friend started sending me messages with increasingly sexual tones. I was curious. I would message him at night, under my quilt, ready to shove my phone under my pillow should my parents come into my room.
