Heat Pumps, Heat Strips and Saving Money
There are several different ways to heat your home. Here in the Atlanta area, most people select one of three different options: gas furnaces, heat pumps, or dual fuel heating systems. If you use natural gas or propane to heat your home in winter, you have a gas furnace.
The former will not require the Aux or Em Heat settings. The latter, Heat Pumps, have two sources of heat for your home so their thermostat needs to be able to communicate to the equipment when to use the two different heat sources. So only heat pump systems require the Emergency heat setting on their thermostats.
